07 Feb One thousand entries – and then some – for this weekend’s George Old Car Show
George, Garden Route (February 2023) – The Southern Cape Old Car Club’s flagship annual event, George Old Car Show (GOCS), celebrated its silver jubilee anniversary last year, and lovers of engines old and new are now invited to attend the 26th staging of this popular event on February 11 and 12, generously supported by premier partners WeBuyCars.
On Saturday and Sunday, the grounds of Eden Technical High School in Long Street will be crawling with cars, motorcycles, tractors, and more. As is the norm, a plethora of stallholders will offer refreshments and goods for sale, bric-a-brac vendors positioned alongside those selling hot and cold beverages and delicious eats.
But, says GOCS chairman Alewijn Dippenaar, there is more to this event than just a good old gathering of petrol heads: “In these challenging times, it’s important to come to a standstill for a moment and experience the wonderful contribution of our automotive industry of the past, present and future.
“The 2023 George Old Car Show driven by We Buy Cars, taking place for the 26th time, will provide precisely this opportunity: a chance for the public to break away from everyday trials and challenges and darkness. Join us for one day or both for a relaxing weekend outing in the presence of classic machines and a look at vehicles of the future.”
Dippenaar says that, apart from the normal GOCS offerings, show-goers can look out for some special demarcated areas as soon as they’ve entered through the gates. The friendly folk of Tourism Office from all over the Garden Route will have a hub to display its products and services, and be sure to look out for a special Italian exhibition that’s guaranteed to enchant.
Please take note that public parking is only available at Carpe Diem School, across Long Street from the Eden High showgrounds, and in the parking space in Union Street, opposite the correctional services facility. Please do not park at the Checkers centre in York Street, as that blocks up spots reserved for businesses in the centre.
York Street is also off-limits in terms of access, the only public access point will be the Eden High gates in Long Street. A new initiative, visitors are requested to bring along donations of cat and dog food to support local pet-care facilities.
