SAVVA

SOUTHERN AFRICAN VETERAN AND VINTAGE ASSOCIATION FORMED IN 1968

The Southern African Veteran and Vintage Association (SAVVA) is the Association of Veteran and Vintage Clubs in Southern Africa of which there are forty. SAVVA is affiliated to Motorsport South Africa (MSA) the National controlling body for all motorsport in South Africa. MSA in turn is affiliated to the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) the world motorsport controlling body (FIM). SAVVA is the South African representative of the Federation Internationale des Vehicules Anciens (FIVA) the International Historic Vehicle Organisation. (IHVO)

 

Thus, SAVVA, when dealing with Government, Councils and other official bodies, it speaks with the combined voice of all our clubs and all their members, with their authority. It operates through a National Council, that is elected annually, consisting of the President, Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Motorsport Portfolio Delegate and Dating Portfolio Delegate, elected by a majority of Member clubs present or voting by proxy at the Annual General Meeting or a Special General Meeting expressly called for that purpose.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The objectives of savva shall be:


a) To promote and improve co-operation between the various clubs and organisations in Southern Africa concerned with the preservation, restoration and use of self-propelled vehicles up to 31st December 1997. This date will be reviewed every five years at the SAVVA AGM and revised accordingly by a two-thirds majority of those present.

b) To act on behalf of the aforesaid member clubs and organisations in making representations to Government, Provincial Organisations, Municipal and other Local Authorities, official bodies and other persons and organisations both local and foreign.

c) To advise, co-operate and negotiate with any official body controlling motor sport whether veteran, vintage, post-vintage or general motor sport and whether in Southern Africa or outside its borders.

d) To stimulate interest in all aspects of the activities set out above.

e) To publish, print, issue and circulate periodicals, books, circulars, documents, magazines, statistics and other literature in furtherance of the above activities.

f) To promote social and recreational facilities for member clubs in a non-profit manner.

VEHICLE CATEGORIES

Vehicles are categorised into the following groups:

CLASS A
Ancestor – Built prior to December 31, 1904.

CLASS B
Veteran – Built between January 1905 & December 31, 1918.Generally the above two classes are rallied together under the banner of Veteran.

CLASS C
Vintage – Built between January 1919 & December 31, 1930.

CLASS D
Post Vintage – Built between January 1931 & December 31, 1945.

CLASS E
Post War – Built between January 1946 & December 31, 1960.

CLASS F
Post 60 Built between January 1961 & December 31, 1970.

CLASS G
Post 70 Built between January 1971 & the SAVVA age Limit as defined in the Constitution.
